in tv films, movies and music videos there is always couler temperature these can vary from a bright and warm orange lighting to a cold and dark blue. it is used to to mesure the describing coulers given off by certain lights and situations.
white balance
white balance is used balance the couller of the light source. it removes the unrealistic looking coullers and makes it look realistic. Proper camera white balance has to take into account the "color temperature" of a light source, which refers to the relative warmth or coolness of white light. Our eyes are very good at judging what is white under different light sources, but digital cameras often have great difficulty with auto white balance (AWB) — and can create unsightly blue, orange, or even green color casts. Understanding digital white balance can help you avoid these color casts, thereby improving your photos under a wider range of lighting conditions.

we mesure couler temperature in kelvin (k)
to help change the couler of the image there are filters (gells) that are clear and coulered sheets pieces of plastic. this makes the image look more blue, orange, black ect. it can make a shot look a bit more warm or cold. the black sheet can make it look more like a moonles night or to make the shot have more shadows.
in 300 the image looks slightly orange this gives the film a warm look as the battle is in a desert. this may also have been done to make the Spartans look more heroic and the pershions more sinister as they are filmed in a colder lighting

in other films the couler of the image can make a character look more menacing or more evil. this is done in the lord of the rigs the fellowship of the ring when you see sauron forging the ring. in this shot the heavy use of orange and red makes him look so much more menacing and evil than he dose in his armour.
this clip includes sauruman who has turned to the allegiance of saron because of this the lighting is cold and dark as you will be able to see in the video.
